First Annual Historic Heritage Preservation Symposium 2017

The First Annual Heritage Preservation Symposium, held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, started this recurring event with a BANG! An unprecedented number of attendees gathered to have lunch and hear three nationally recognized speakers talk on various issues related to the 225th anniversary of the Boone Party coming through the Cumberland Gap. These speakers were Stephen Aron, Professor & Chairman, UCLA Dept. of History - "The Dilemmas of Daniel Boone.” (Expert on Daniel Boone and the Trans-Appalachian settlement.) Daniel Ackerman, Curator, Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts – “Becoming Kentucky: Cultural Confluence in the Decorative Arts of Early Kentucky.” (Expert on the built environment and decorative arts of the early American South.) And lastly, Estill Pennington, Art Historian – “Kentucky: the Far West of the Old South in Romantic Art.” (Authority on Kentucky and Southern American portraiture.)
